I don't have internet at home yet. Trying to figure it all out...I can do Bell whichis through the phone line and would take up some of my long distance plan which is unlimited so it doesn't matter OR I can do the local one (Tamaani) which is double the price but local and it doesn't take up my phone line. I will decide this weekend. I have access here at school whenever I want because I have a key to the school.
I do have a Bell phone number. It is 819.929.3503. I do not have an answering machine and voice mail does not exist up here. I brought a crappy phone with me with call display (which I DO have) but it does not display and only occasionally can I dial out. Too funny but frustrating. I went online yesterday and ordered a phone from Bell. It should be here by Monday. At least, I have a phone.
As for tv, you will get a kick out of this one. Unlike Coral Harbour, the Co-op here does not offer a local cable option so everyone has satelite...either Star Choice or Bell Express Vu. The kicker is that no one here officially installs it. I also have no dish on my house. So, in order for me to get satelite, I would have to order from the south and pay someone to randomly attach the dish to my place and then cross my fingers that it works. This past weekend, I used the Xbox to watch the first few seasons of "Roswell" for the 14th million time. I also watched the "Elvis" mini series that John gave me as well as part of Season Two of House. I ordered "Freaks and Geeks" from Chapters as well as the series of "Jericho" (a show that Morgan in Kuujjuaq got me addicted to). The people who lived in my house last year told me that if I had an antenna, I could get APTN, French CBC, and English CBC. I stuck a metal thing (don't ask) into the back of the tv and it seemed to work. Nice to be able to watch the news even if it IS CBC. I am waiting till Xmas to make a decision about the satelite. Not sure if I want to make the investment or not. I went a year without tv when I did Katimavik in Morden so this should be okay too. I can "visit" people and get my fix then.
And that, my friends, is a brief synopsis (or lack thereof) of technology in Kuujjuaraapik, Quebec.
